Augsburg University Study on Perceptions of Law Enforcement and Investigation Techniques
CONSENT FORM
Before starting the survey you must provide your consent to participate. This section will describe the general purpose, tasks, and any potential risks involved with the study. We encourage you to take your time to carefully read the study description and all task instructions. If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete a survey relating to your perception of law enforcement and the use of lie detector tests during investigations. Following your successful completion of the survey, you will be given a unique code that can be entered to confirm that the survey has been completed and finalize your compensation.
DESCRIPTION OF STUDY
You are invited to participate in research that investigates the perception of law enforcement and the use of lie detectors (a.k.a. polygraph tests) during investigations. This study is being conducted by Dr. Ben Denkinger and Dr. Henry Yoon in the Department of Psychology at Augsburg University.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?All U.S. citizens aged 18 and older are eligible to participate.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS AND BENEFITS OF BEING IN THIS STUDY?
There are no anticipated risks associated with completing these questionnaires. The content of the questionnaires is not expected to be emotionally arousing, and does not deal with sensitive topics. However, if for any reason you do not believe that you can complete the task, you may choose to discontinue participation at any time. At the conclusion of the survey, you will be directed to a link to enter your name in a random prize drawing for (1) $50 Target gift certificate, or one of (10) $5 Target gift certificates. Prize drawings will occur on May 1st, 2025 and winners will be contacted by email.
HOW WILL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION BE PROTECTED?
We do not collect any personally identifying information as a part of this research. The demographic information and questionnaire responses that you submit cannot be linked to you directly. The records of this study will be kept confidential. If we publish or present any type of report, we will not include any information that will make it possible to identify you. All raw survey data will be managed by the principal investigators (Ben Denkinger and Henry Yoon).
